I’m pleased to announce the release of my 8th book, Skoll’s Diary.

Africans and African Americans left Earth in 1900, and went to another planet in The Milky Way to escape mistreatment…

It’s now the year 3005 on that terraformed planet. We get a peek into the life of a bright and sensitive teenaged boy, Skoll, through his journal. He loves his world, but is curious about life on Earth. Then suddenly, an epic event casts him in the middle of a difficult decision.  The fate of the planet’s community is in his hands.

Grace VanderWaal is at the Top of Her Game With Letters: Vol. 1

The Indie Spot!

Rating: ★★★★★ Grace VanderWaal is on a roll. The rapidly ascending singer/songwriter opened 2019 with a brooding single called “Stray.” She closes the year out with a brand new six-song EP entitled Letters: Vol. 1. And just what did she accomplish in between? I’m glad you asked. Miss VanderWaal released a soundtrack single for a major motion picture (Wonder Park), opened a handful of gigs for none other than Florence and the Machine, entertained a massive crowd at the Railbird Festival in Kentucky, before taking to the road for a sold out headlining tour of her own. Oh, and did I mention she had to squeeze all that in while keeping her grades up in school? You won’t hear me complain about my schedule ever again.

Listening to the tracks on the new EP, it’s easy to hear the time and effort that has been spent on…

Lady Rougepen Says: Fall in Love with Cupidity

Seanarchy

IMG_4192Cupidity means an “intense desire for material things, or greed.” Example: The theme of the 1980s was cupidity and hubris.

The root of that word, “Cupid” is derived was the god of love in Roman mythology (Eros in Greek mythology). The winged god who shot arrows into hearts was god’s Ares and Aphrodite’s son. He used to be portrayed as an Adonis type with 6-pack abs, but the prim Victorians gave him a makeover, as a cuddly, baby.

Lady Rougepen Says: Flash ‘Em

Good way to build writing skills.

Not ready to commit to writing a novel yet, or does the concept scare the socks off you? Try flash fiction. Flash fiction is a short, short story – sometimes only 100 words long. It’s a short, sweet way to strengthen the writing muscle, and to ease into writing plot lines.
I must confess: I have gotten addicted to this writing exercise, this year. Click here for all my flash fiction stories.

Lady Rougepen Says: Rubicund Makes Me Blush

Seanarchy

IMG_4192

The word of today is rubicund. It means “reddish” or rosy. Example: Not using sunscreen leaves you with a rubicund complexion if you’re fair.

This word has roots in 15th-century Latin. This word holds a special place in my heart because red is my favorite color! I guess you could figure that out though.

What Are Your Other Passions?

Making jewelry is a nice hobby.

Seanarchy

Many creative people are creative in multiple veins. Yes, I am a writer, but I also make jewelry and do art. Here are a few of my semiprecious pieces:

First Monday Mentoring November 2019 – do you always write from the heart?

valerieparv

This week I was reading The Last Voyage of Mrs Henry Parker the second novel by past Valerie Parv Award Winner, Joanna Nell, when I found in the acknowledgments, her  appreciation for encouraging her to follow her instincts and write her book from the heart.

She’d certainly done that. At one point I was reading in such an emotional mess I didn’t think I could finish the book because I was feeling all the feels. Thankfully I did finish and the ending was totally worthwhile.

Joanna’s acknowledgment made me think about how important it is to invest yourself in your writing. Years ago an editor at Mills & Boon, London, proposed a change I’d already considered and rejected. When I told her so, she asked me how often I followed my instincts. I’d was forced to admit that I’d been second-guessing myself , trying to give the editor…
