Since this party has a Halloween theme, I thought I would share an excerpt from my short story, Zombie Dawn.

Catherine’s house, including the treacherous back steps and the spooky alley, was my house for seventeen years, and Silme was my sweet baby boy for sixteen of those years.

The neighborhood in the story is the one I live in now, and I get a little exercise by walking those streets at least four nights a week, always between ten p. m. and midnight.

Zimmy, Kate and the Cuban Beetle ©

Tales From the Fourth Dementia

Until recently the U.S. government didn’t want you to go to Cuba.  That policy, which started way back in the Eisenhower administration, required that everybody apply for a license before traveling to Havana.    My friend Zimmy Tarbox  has a Ph.D. in entomology. He’s been all over the world measuring the space between the eyeballs of baby cockroaches.  Zimmy’s British colleague, Kate Billingsly, is the world’s leading expert on pond scum skimmer bugs.    Back in 2006, Kate and Zimmy attended the 15th Annual International Cockroach and Pond Skimmer Conference in Cuba.  In 2016 the sponsoring group, the Entomological Society scheduled its 25th annual conference for Havana, and Kate and Zimmy were invited to give keynote addresses in recognition of their outstanding contributions to entomological research.      In Hong Kong last January, the two talked about their upcoming visit to Cuba.    “Speaking of,” said Kate,  “I met Ricardo Calvez in Samoa last month. …

Lady Rougepen Says: Meet Metanoia

Seanarchy

The word of today is metanoia. It’s a noun that means “an awakening or epiphany.” Example: My dentist finding three cavities on my last visit was a metanoia that I should cut back on sugar.

“Meta” (Greek) means change. And “noia” means thought. It literally means, “change of thought.” It’s a sister to the word “paranoia,” which loosely means “abnormal thought.”

I’m pleased to announce the release of my 8th book, Skoll’s Diary.

Africans and African Americans left Earth in 1900, and went to another planet in The Milky Way to escape mistreatment…

It’s now the year 3005 on that terraformed planet. We get a peek into the life of a bright and sensitive teenaged boy, Skoll, through his journal…

Book Review: The Good Kill

Seanarchy

IMG_4717.jpgTitle: The Good Kill

Author: Kurt Brindley

Genre: Action

Length: 392 pages

Action? Check. Lone wolf hero with a tragic flaw? Check. Strong women? Check.

This action-packed book grabs you by the throat from the beginning. It does it firmly, but not to preachily, to keep you captive audience, as Brindley gives you a peek into the grimy underbelly of too much money, not enough morals, the sex trade, and espionage. The protagonist, Killian Lebon, is a broken veteran who engages in a very creative form of vigilance. You know it’s wrong, but you can’t help but cheer him on, offer to buy his lunch for his service if you see him in a diner: keeping society safe from people who can’t defend themselves.

My only criticism is that Brindley does paint some of the characters with a broad brush. You have the stereotypical whorish, foul-mouthed black woman (Ruby) whose…
